Qianghuo (scientific name: Notopterygium incisum Ting ex H. T. Chang) is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Apiaceae family and the genus Notopterygium, reaching up to 120 cm in height. It has a thick rhizome, an erect, cylindrical stem tinged with purple. The basal leaves and lower stem leaves are petiolate, with blades that are ternate-pinnately compound, featuring notched shallow lobes to pinnate deep lobes along the margins. The leaf sheaths are membranous, long, and clasp the stem. The compound umbels have lateral ones often sterile; the bracts are linear and caducous; the bracteoles are linear, with numerous flowers. The calyx teeth are ovate-triangular, the petals are white, ovate to oblong-ovate, the anthers are yellow and elliptical, and the stylopodium is slightly raised and flattened. The mericarps are oblong, flowering in July, and fruiting from August to September.
